I ran my first international half marathon at the end of March in Freiburg Germany (about 2 hours south of Stuttgart), it was a little last minute so I didn’t train as well as I might have wanted to but the race was pretty flat (rare for Germany) and I went with a friend which made it more fun. I didn’t take any pictures while we were there but snapped this one after I got home:
Friends from Richmond were in town this weekend and we did a little traveling. We headed down to Munich for the day and did a tour of the BMW museum and ate lunch at the Hofbrauhaus. The atmosphere of the Hofbrauhaus was great, we saw a German group celebrating a 75th birthday and everyone was decked out in lederhosen and drinking lots of beer. They even have a place to store your own beer stein when you’re a frequent customer (pic below). The food was authentically German with lots of sausage options and HUGE pretzels (pic also below). My German is getting better after 2 rounds of German class so I was able to understand and navigate a lot better but most people speak English and will switch to that when they know you’re American.
